SHIELD TIER · Service 05 · External Authority

Authority that compounds off your domain.

A continuous engagement to distribute your authority across the open web — contributed editorial, topically-aligned placements, podcast appearances, expert quote contributions, and external reinforcement assets. Each placement deepens your entity's presence in the broader category conversation. The signal that compounds outside your site is often what makes the signal inside your site land.

01 / The Deliverable

What's actually inside the engagement.

Six continuous workstreams run the engagement. The Network operates on top of authority link building (Service 04) but extends into broader external presence — quotes in industry pieces, podcast guesting, contributed editorial, expert positioning. External authority compounds the internal architecture rather than running in parallel to it.

Deliverable 01
S

Surface Mapping

Mapping of all external authority surfaces in your category — publications, podcasts, newsletters, industry events, expert directories, quote-source networks. Prioritized by topical relevance.

Deliverable 02
E

Expert Positioning

Founder/team expert positioning specification — angles, talking points, predicate-clean phrasings, on-record talking notes. Aligned with Source Term Vector so external mentions reinforce on-site authority.

Deliverable 03
C

Contributed Editorial

Per-month contributed pieces to category publications. Briefs · drafts · editorial QA · publication coordination. Predicate-clean from production — no post-publish corrections needed.

Deliverable 04
P

Podcast & Quote Outreach

Outreach to podcasts, journalists, industry roundups, expert quote networks. Pitches aligned with current expert positioning. Real opportunities, not vanity placements.

Deliverable 05
R

Reinforcement Assets

Supporting assets that travel — speaker decks, expert one-pagers, stat libraries, talking-point briefs. Reusable infrastructure for inbound expert opportunities.

Deliverable 06
M

Monthly Network Reporting

Mentions logged · placement velocity · response rates · upcoming opportunities · external authority surface health. Cumulative category presence scorecard.

03 / The Fit

Who this fits.

This engagement produces real outcomes for businesses ready for the methodology — and frustrates businesses looking for quick fixes. The fit map below is honest. If your business is in the right column, an audit-first approach or a different service is the better starting point.

Where it fits

This engagement works if you...

  • Have a founder or team member willing to be the expert voice
  • Want category recognition beyond on-site authority
  • Operate in a category with active publications, podcasts, and expert networks
  • Are willing to commit to 9+ months for category presence to compound
  • Have an existing topical architecture (or are building one alongside)
  • Want external authority that reinforces internal AI citation work
  • Recognize that external mentions and brand searches drive disproportionate signal
Where it doesn't

This isn't right if you...

  • Want anonymous brand growth — this requires expert voice on record
  • Need results within 3 months — category presence compounds slowly
  • Operate in categories without active media surfaces
  • Want to delegate expert positioning to a ghostwriter exclusively
  • Care about backlinks only — this is broader external authority
  • Don't have time for 1–2 hour podcast appearances monthly
04 / The Timeline

How the engagement runs.

The engagement starts with a 6-week mapping and positioning phase. Outreach and contributed editorial begin month 02. First confirmed placements typically land month 02–03 depending on editorial cycles. Network compounding reaches steady-state around month 09–12.

06 / Questions

What buyers ask before committing.

The questions below come up most often during scoping calls for this engagement.

Link building (Service 04) optimizes for editorially-earned backlinks with predicate cleanliness. Content Network extends that into broader external presence — podcasts, quotes, expert positioning, contributed editorial as a category voice. Many engagements run both together because the workstreams reinforce each other.

Strongly recommended. Authentic expert voice from a founder/team member produces 5–10× the signal of ghostwritten content. We can support with positioning, talking points, and pitch coordination — but the on-record voice needs to be a real person with category credibility.

Then this isn't the right service. Podcast and quote opportunities require 1–2 hours of expert time monthly minimum. If that's not available, the contributed editorial workstream (Service 04 instead) or content production (Service 06) is a better fit.

Category recognition typically compounds at month 09–12 at steady cadence. By that point: 30+ contributed pieces, 25+ podcast appearances, expert positioning stable across surfaces. Recognition is a downstream metric — not a 90-day outcome.

Editorial briefs and first drafts are produced collaboratively. The expert voice and angle come from you; the structure and predicate-clean phrasing come from us. Final pieces are reviewed and approved by you before submission. Zero ghostwritten pieces published without expert review.

9 months. Category presence is structural and compounds over cycles. A 3-month engagement produces individual placements without producing the recognition the work is engineered for. We've declined shorter engagements.

08 / The Next Step

Authority that travels off your domain.

On-site authority is half the equation. The other half lives in publications, podcasts, and the broader category conversation. Distribute your authority where buyers actually look.
